In three separate launches, CAP YEI, in partnership with KISIP (Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project) and World Bank, set the ball running on the DPW project with launches in each settlement. These launches brought together the key stakeholders in the project: KISIP representatives, project participants, church leaders, local leaders, county government officials, SEC (Settlement Executive Committee) members, and parents.
The project aims to offer job matching and placement to 285 young men and women who worked in the 2022 World Bank project within the settlements. The DPW project is a skills training and job matching project, which shall place 65% of the 285 to sustainable jobs and 10% empowered with skills while the others shall be oriented into entrepreneurship or mixed livelihoods.
In the implementation of this project, CAP YEI will conduct the following activities: –
Documentation of existing skills.
- Pre-placement phase (also known as job readiness and involves life skills training)
- Targeted job matching and placement
- Work Integrated learning or OJT (On Job Training)
- CV mock writing and work readiness sessions
CAP YEI’s focus shall also provide post placement support with orientation and grounding involving the creation of a network to maximize exposure to opportunities and a flexible timetable to ensure maximum participation and benefit from the program by the participants.
Expert visits and mentorship: As part of the project, CAP YEI shall bring forth different experts to continuously visit the participants to give them insights into what to expect when engaging the employers, such as Human Resources experts, operations, finance managers, and others.
