Amos Karanja Mbugua

My name is Amos Karanja Mbugua, I was born in1998. I studied at Mirera Primary school in Mirera village, Naivasha district. I faced a lot of challenges during my school time but I kept my faith and hopes high and continued with my education. I completed my primary education in the year 2012 after which I started selling eggs from my savings. My family had financial constraints where I did not manage to join high school on time hence spending the rest of the year at home without going to school. I eventually joined my age mates who did not join high school too and were working as casual laborers for the neighbors, with time, I got used to this means of survival through meager earnings from casual labor from my neighbors. I managed to save and bought a goat. I later sold the goat in the year 2013 and joined high school with the generous help of my mother. My education was smooth up to form three when my mother lost her job. I was forced to drop out of school since she could not be able to support me anymore.

Unfortunately that was the end of my education, I went back home and started working as a house help to assist my mother raise school fees for my younger siblings. I managed to purchase a smart phone and on the internet came across an institution known as Cap youth empowerment institute. The institute drew my attention and I decided to research more about it, my research led me to Naivasha town where I met a group of young people and among them was my friend who told me he was on attachment after attending and pursuing a course at Cap youth empowerment institute. After interrogating him further, he told me that there was a new branch coming up in Narok. When I went home that evening I told my mother about the issue, I did not have the bus fare to travel to Narok but my uncle assisted me with the money to travel. I traveled to Narok and managed to meet the facilitators who confirmed to me that it is true a new branch was coming up in Narok. I booked for an admission in the institution and I was allowed to join.

After joining the institution on 2017 I learnt life skills which helped me to socialize with my colleagues and the people in the community. I studied automobile course in addition to entrepreneurship skills and computer studies. Since I have a lot of interest playing with machines the course was very easy and this made my three months training went on smoothly at CAPYEI.After completing the training I was attached at BONNIE’S MOTORCYCLE AND AUTO SPARES at NAROK for two months industrial attachment, where I was trained on different parts of Motorcycle including Power Generation system, Power Transmission system, Motorcycle Electrical system, Motorcycle Service and Engine Overhauling. Since that time my life started to change because I was being given lunch and sometimes transport. After completing the attachment I was given a job to work as a technician up to date. I’m proud to be a technician since it has helped me to earn my living. I humbly wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to CAP YOUTH EMPOWERMENT INSTITUTE and the facilitators for they have molded me into a useful and productive young person ready to go out and serve the community.
