The beauty and cosmetics industry has become Kenya’s new hub of investment that is pulling in big money to establish new lines of business and to snap up successful enterprises through multi-million shilling acquisition deals. Kenya’s colour cosmetics market is estimated to be worth Sh5.4 billion and is expected to grow to Sh6.6 billion by 2018. Hair and Beauty jobs are available in salons, department stores and on cruise ships. Other options include working at a magazine, photographic studio, theatre or television company. Some workers in the industry may also run their own business. However, despite the many opportunities that exist, youth from disadvantaged background are unable to tap into them because of the cost involved in the acquiring of the skills. CAPYEI main mission being to ensure that disadvantaged youth learn and acquire life skills and job market relevant skills, it found it worth to venture in the hairdressing and beauty sector by providing training in hairdressing and beauty.
