Kakamega County is in the Western Province of Kenya. It has a total Population of 1,660,651 in 398,709 Households and covers an area of 3,244.9Km². The Population density is 515 per square Kilometer. Unfortunately 57% of the population lives below the poverty line, however, there are huge areas of strength in Kakamega County. Some Strengths of Kakamega County include: Natural resources as Gold, Arable Land, Forests; Tourist Attractions as Kakamega Forest, Caves, Crying Stone of Ilesi; Large-Scale Sugarcane farming, Mixed Farming, Commercial businesses, ‘Boda-Boda’ Transport business. Kakamega County is administratively divided into nine constituencies; Lugari, Mumias, Matungu, Lurambi, Butere, Khwisero, Malava, and Shinyalu constituencies. The county is also markedly divided into sub-counties following former district boundaries, including Kakamega North, Kakamega South, Kakamega East, Kakamega Central, Lugari and Mumias. Kakamega County has many learning institutions that offer quality education to both local and international students. An example of a learning institution in the county includes Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. Health centers include Kakamega General Hospital, Kima Mission Hospital, Central Maternity and Nursing Home and Kimilili District Hospital.

CAP YEI established a replication center in Kakamega town and is located at the Kakamega Youth Polytechnic. The establishment of this replication center was based on the excellent performance of the Othaya, Thika, Mombasa, and Eldoret replication centers which are hosted by youth polytechnics or technical and vocational education training institutions. Kakamega replication center was purposely situated not only because of its strategic ease of access to youth from the town and its environs, but to also to complement the existing youth polytechnic curriculum portfolio. Since the inception of the center, 10 batches of 215 students were enrolled, 141 trained and graduated, and 93.62% have been placed in jobs, 74 are in internship, and 1.42% had started their small businesses.
