KISUMU CENTER

The Lake side city of Kisumu city is situated strategically within the Lake Victoria basin which is of great significance in the economic development of the town. Lake Victoria great lakes region is a hub of East Africa following its ease of connectivity from Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda and Mombasa both by air, water and road .The city is located on the Western region of Kenya. It’s the third largest city in Kenya with an approximate population of 700,000 people. Kisumu is fast emerging as a centre of excellence in education, playing host to 7 universities and several other institutions. This has generated a huge demand for accommodation and conference facilities. The recent branding of the tourism sites in Kisumu city and its environs has also resulted in enhanced opportunities in the hotel and construction industry. Kisumu is host to Nbere National Park, Kisumu Impala Sanctuary; only five minutes’ drive from the city centre. It hosts impalas and zebras on free range while other bigger game are caged and Kit Mikai crying stone which is believed to have been a wife of the first Luo King.

CAP YEI Involvement in Kisumu City

CAP YEI established a demonstration center in Kisumu city due to the great opportunities for empowering youth with basic job entry skills training in hospitality and electrical sectors among the youth and the subsequent potential to link them to both small scale business ventures and employment. The centre trains youth in hospitality, Security System & Guarding and electrical and electronics skills and is currently training 124 students. The center has admitted and trained 12 batches of youth since its inception to date. Kisumu has already enrolled 351 youth in the second phase, 229 completed training, 86.90% succeeded to be placed in jobs, 115 are in internship, and 4.14% started small businesses.
