Mombasa Center

Mombasa is the second largest City in Kenya; it lies next to the Indian Ocean with a major Port and an International Airport. The City also serves as the centre of the coastal tourism industry. Its name derives from Mombasa, the Arabic name of the former sultan of Mvita, which had its capital here. In modern times the City was the headquarters of Mombasa County. The City is located on Mombasa Island which is separated from the mainland by two creeks: Tudor Creek and Kilindini Harbour.

The island is connected to the mainland to the north by the Nyali Bridge, to the south by the Likoni Ferry and to the west by the Makupa Causeway, alongside which runs the Kenya-Uganda Railway. The Port serves both Kenya and landlocked countries, linking them to the Ocean. Mombasa is also known for lucrative trading activities involving domestic and foreign goods. Tourism is one of the leading economic activities in the area with over 2 million visitors arriving in the area every year. Like the other replication centers, CAP YEI started its BEST replication center at the Christian Industrial Training Center in Mombasa after conducting a market scan to establish sector industries’ skill needs and to find out potential small business opportunities that can be started by CAP YEI graduates.

CAP YEI involvement

CAP YEI Mombasa center has been training students in hospitality and customer relations and sales. The center has admitted and trained 13 batches of youth since its inception to date. Mombasa has already enrolled 296 youth in the second phase, 184 completed training, 112 are in internship, 80.67% succeeded to be placed in jobs and 7.33% started small businesses.
