MUYEYE CENTER
MUYEYE CENTER
Muyeye Center is located in Malindi town in Kilifi County and is predominantly inhabited by the Mijikenda community and mostly Giriamas sub tribe whose main economic activity is farming and boda boda riding. Malindi is a town mostly inhabited by Italians and is 2 hours’ drive from Mombasa Town. It is a coastal coastal town of Kenya. It attracts tourists but due to some security issues the number of tourist dropped and many of the Italian inhabitants moved to Zanzibar, Tanzania.
Majority of the people in Malindi and Kilifi in general are very poor people. The youth around Muyeye are primary school droupouts—they only completed class 8 level of learning and the dropout rates is very high. Due to high numbers of youth who never continue with their studies, most of them turned to informal income earning activities, mostly transportation using motorcycles known as boda boda. Some of the informal jobs here are motorcycle riding, stone works, fishing among others. The key formal sector industries in Malindi include Hotel industry, salt production, sand harvesting and brick making.
There is a growing demand for automobile services which makes the Automobile course suitable for this environment.
