Richard Ochuna Baraza, 27- Maritime Transport and Logistics
With a passion for marine logistics, Richard was looking for a way to train in it, unfortunately, he could not raise the fees required by most colleges offering the course. A friend introduced him to the Go Blue project, where he enrolled in the marine and logistics course at the Kisauni Vocational Training Center. Richard comes from Mikindani in Mombasa County.
He took six months of training and upon completion, he became an entrepreneur. Richard is a carpenter, making all sorts of furniture ranging from sofa sets to wooden stools and tables. His journey as an entrepreneur was enabled by the entrepreneurship skills he learned during the training; he is able to run his business professionally, keeping his sales and transaction records organized. The Life Skills course has helped him handle his customers in a professional manner and give them the best customer service.
Richard says CAP YEI’s Go Blue project has empowered him, he is able to market his products and run his business well. He is appreciative of the toolkit (circular power saw), which was awarded to him during the graduation; he uses it a lot in his work. He urges CAP YEI to come up with more courses that lean more towards self-employment so that after training the youth can be self-employed and not rely entirely on employment.
