Symon Kiama
My name Symon Kiama Njoroge, I was born in Nyeri County in Othaya Sub – County. I started schooling in the year 2002 and sat for my form four certificate in the year 2015. I was lucky to be informed about CAP-YEI by my friends who trained there and later got jobs that really motivated me because I did not want to stay at home. I took hospitality course and enjoy cooking, that is when I realized my passion in cooking, and I also enjoyed learning life skills and entrepreneurship. After training I got a job at Othaya Chicken café for 2years.During my off days I went for outside catering with a lady who was doing well in the industry.
From the training of entrepreneurship I was able to identify an opportunity in the market and that was outside catering, I started off by only providing Labour during outside catering to renting the equipment, I am glad I was able to buy my own stuff from the little saving that I had accumulated.
Currently I am glad to say I am doing well in the catering business with quality being my pride. Apart from the catering business I am engaged and committed to making mandazis and tea at Othaya stage, where my potential customers are the touts and matatu crew who frequents my food kiosk, this has boosted my income especially when there is low season in catering jobs.
I always call upon other CAPYEI trainees to help in service as a way of also lifting them up because I was also helped at one time. I will always be grateful to CAPYEI family for making me realize my dream. I have one person who is employed by my business and take 5-10 others during outside caterings. My future dream is to grow my business into a regional level where I can be able to meet the growing demand for large number of people, focus on weddings and County functions.
