Tourism is a key sector in Kenya’s economy as it accounts for at least 35% of the country’s GDP. A series of market scans by CAP YEI reveals that the sector harbors numerous livelihood opportunities in most counties, especially the coastal and rift valley regions. In addition, eco-tourism, which is the sustainable version of the traditional tourism, has been gaining traction in counties such as Laikipia, especially with the many private conservancies, private ranches, and group ranches that have led to the mushrooming of lodges and other tourist establishments. In this light, CAP YEI opines that this sector presents opportunities for the youths if they are provided with the needed skills.
