Scope: Nairobi, Kasarani
Project Brief
The Urban Refugee Empowerment Project (UREP) is a bespoke training program funded by Global Affairs Canada in partnership with WUSC under the Partner Innovation Fund (PIF) and implemented by CAP Youth Empowerment. UREP is a gender-responsive program targeting urban refugee communities, with a particular focus on women aged 18-35 with existing businesses.
The project training center is situated in Kasarani, Nairobi at a church called Life Hope Ministries. This is an innovation where CAPYEI aims to work with partners to deliver skills to the most deserving youth(Refugees) in the community. The training program has been designed as a 3-month experiential learning where the learners attend classroom training for 1 month, and 2 months of post-classroom support and mentorship at their business locations.
This project started in October 2022 with a series of activities and meetings. These activities were geared towards creating awareness of the project and mobilizing the community for the program. UREP is a very unique empowerment program that has been tailor-made to increase opportunities for Urban refugees and reduce the constraints faced during implementation.
