The Youth Futures Policy Research Project, led by the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) and CAP Youth Empowerment Institute, invites applications for the Youth Futures training and Mentorship of in Participatory Action Research Methods. The programme is designed to build the next generation of young researchers and changemakers.
About the Youth Futures Policy Research Project
The Youth Futures Policy Research Project is a three-year initiative supported by the Mastercard Foundation and implemented in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa and Uganda. It aims to transform youth employment policies by addressing the gaps in policy formulation and regulatory frameworks that hinder dignified and fulfilling work
Youth Futures Research Methods Training
Over three months, selected participants will be introduced to practical tools and approaches used in the Youth Futures Policy Research Project, including
The training combines immersive learning with mentorship, enabling youth to co-design and implement a mini-research project that reflects real challenges and possibilities within their communities.
The programme will be delivered through a hybrid model comprising:
- A 2-day in-person boot camp introducing core research principles and participatory approaches.
- Three virtual learning labs focusing on the practical application of research skills. The sessions will begin by guiding participants to identify a relevant problem and articulate the rationale for their chosen research.
- A 3-month guided mentorship, where participants co-design and implement a mini-PAR project within their communities/countries.
Who Can Apply?
We are seeking young people from Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa aged 24- 35 with a background or exposure to research, community engagement, or policy-related work. Selection will ensure regional balance and inclusivity, with representation of women, youth with disabilities, and those from rural or marginalized settings.
