Project Brief

CHF project is a technical skills empowerment project that links hospitality to the agribusiness value chain founded by Conrad Hilton Foundation that focuses on empowering 500 youths in Kenya’s coastal counties for increased livelihood opportunities within the two sectors. The project will also bolster COVID-19 recovery of the hospitality and tourism sector and related youth employment efforts in Kenya by adapting short-term COVID-19-specific virtual training techniques and aligning with the government’s sector recovery plan.

Expected Outcomes

The project is expected to:

  • Transition beneficiaries from learning to earning at a rate of 75% wage employment and 21% self-employment.
  • Ensure that the entrepreneurship component is focused on helping the youth in exploring the entire value chain activities, which are dubbed “From Farm to Plate”, the business opportunities they can venture into in the agriculture and hospitality sectors.
  • Ensure an enrollment of 60% young women.

Achievements

  • The project has trained and transitioned 520 project participants from batch one and two to internships, Wage Employment, Self-employment, and mixed livelihoods in Kwale, Kilifi, and Mombasa counties.
