Project Brief

In 2016, CAPYEI through a partnership with the GIZ E4D program carried out a Basic Employability Skills Training project, which recorded a great impact on the lives of vulnerable youths by Providing more than 5000 youth with Basic Employability Skills Training where 60% of the youth trained got entry-level jobs and 15% of the youth trained started micro businesses.

In addition to converting learning to livelihoods in every county, they established strong private and government networks. They created a platform for capacity building of government-owned VTCs to offer short CBET courses.

Upon the completion of the project’s first phase, there was a notable demand for continued training, hence the need for a project extension.

It is in this regard, CAPYEI received an extension of the project between February 2019 and September 2021 which was implemented in 6 counties; Lamu, Kilifi, Kwale, Kisumu, Kericho, and Bungoma counties. After successful implementation and completion of the extension, CAPYEI got a further extension in October 2021 to be implemented in two counties; Lamu and Nakuru, and in October 2022 three more counties were added to the project; Makueni, Laikipia, and Murang’a. This phase of the project is set to end in June 2023.

This project is under the GIZ-KOICA co-financing and, is jointly implemented by Employment and Skills for Africa Program, CAP Youth Empowerment Institute, and selected vocational training centers/TTIs/TVC.
